Witham MP, Priti Patel, has welcomed the Government’s announcement that Essex will receive over £6 million of additional funding to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Last month, the Government announced that £250 million will be given to local councils up to 2020 to support provision for children and young people with SEND. Securing the second highest share of this funding nationally, Essex County Council is set to receive £3,267,560 in 2018/19 and again in 2019/20 to invest in SEND services across the County.
Priti said:
“This additional investment for local SEND services is positive news and will help to improve support and outcomes for children and young people with SEND needs.
“Demand for SEND services locally is rising and I have been pressing the Government to enhance support for children and young people with SEND. I am delighted that Essex will receive the second highest funding allocation nationally and this additional resource provides the opportunity to ease growing pressures and future proof local SEND services.
“I am now pressing the County Council to ensure that this investment is focused on the needs of constituents and greater local provision as well as improving service quality and outcomes for children and young people with SEND needs".
