WHAT WE ARE DOING IN MARKS TEY & LAYER WARD
Andrew will oppose unnecessary over-development.
It is important that we build homes that the next generation can afford but this has to be done properly and proportionally. We cannot allow large developments to be built, especially in our rural areas, that are completely out of character with the local area.
Andrew will work to get our roads repaired.
Many of our roads are in need of repair which is a common occurrence after winter, with many potholes needing urgent attention. Working closely with Kevin we are getting many of these repaired and where necessary, resurfaced.
Andrew Ellis loves living in rural Colchester and has been his privilege to represent residents for nearly two decades at the Town Hall. In the important local elections on May 4 2023, Andrew is standing for re-election, allowing him to continue his hard work on behalf of residents.

As a local ward councillor, Andrew has helped many individuals and local groups with a large number of issues, including planning, highways matters, school place allocations, waste collections, littering and fly tipping, flooding and a whole manner of things as and when they occur.
Working as a team with councillor colleagues Kevin Bentley and Jackie Maclean, Andrew said, “We take advantage of each other’s strengths. We ensure that we put people first and always try to help residents and communities wherever we can. We also work closely with our Parish Councils to tackle issues that directly affect you.”
“Our area continues to grow, and many more people have moved into new places such as Oakwood Meadows and Lakelands. These areas remain unadopted which means that ECC Highways do not have responsibility for repairs to roads and pavements. I, along with Kevin and Jackie, work to get these issues resolved by the Developers concerned.”
Andrew is currently helping Copford residents oppose a number of large planning applications, and also dealing with problematic planning issues in Marks Tey.
Much of Andrew’s ward is very rural and he is a great believer in protecting a rural way of life. Andrew works with many villages, supporting Messing and Inworth in their opposition to National Highways ridiculous junction plans, helping Layer Marney with their Community Hub, ensuring development in Layer de la Haye benefits the community by ringfencing affordable housing for local people, and working to have the attended refuse freighter service reinstated in the ward villages. Andrew added, “We work with villages to help tackle speeding, and also to improve services such as buses, broadband coverage and investment in our Community and Village Halls.”
